In April 2016 all dogs must be microchipped in England. Your pet must also be microchipped if you intend to apply for his or her Pet Passport.
Microchips are not tracking devices but if your pet becomes lost a vet, your Dog Warden or rescue centre can scan your pet, obtain your pets microchip number, contact Petlog and they will advise the finders of your details so that you can be reunited as soon as possible.
I am a fully trained and qualified microchip implanter that can come to your home to undertake this procedure. I only use mini chips (the smallest chips you can purchase) and I am insured to microchip dogs, cats, rabbits and any small furry pets. I can visit your home* to carry out this procedure which takes just a few minutes, or I am available to attend dog clubs or other events.
I charge just £10 per animal or £8 per puppy under the age of 8 weeks old and that includes travel to and from your home and registering your pet online.
Once microchipped I enter you and your dogs details on to the Kennel Clubs Petlog register online, on the same day. Petlog will then contact both you and myself to confirm this has been done. And then that's it!
PLEASE NOTE: if you move home or change any of your contact phone numbers to notify PETLOG immediately.
It is still law that all dogs, even if microchipped, must be collared with an ID disc attached. The disc should show YOUR name, YOUR full address (not just your postcode!) and YOUR telephone number. Your dogs name is not necessary and would just make it that much easier for a dog thief - so don't do it. Believe me, as an ex-dog warden I can not express how important your dogs id tag becomes if he/she goes missing. It is a visiual aid to anyone finding your pet and usually means they can contact you to let you know your pet is safe and well and where you can collect it from. After many years of constantly replacing my dogs id tags because I could not read the engraving any more I changed to uisng Identitag. Their plastic tags are light, easy to read and I have found lasts the whole of the dogs life. Their contact details are:
