Dog Dancing - also known as Heelwork To Music
I have been competing in heelwork to music since 1996. Over the years I have grown and developed with the sport and managed to be quite successful; qualifying several dogs of different breeds to compete at Advanced level and even won the Crufts Heelwork to Music Class in 2007 with my brilliant collie, Tapper.
When dog dancing came to the UK in 1995 I jumped at the chance of combining my love of music with my love of training dogs and, over the years, it has become apparent that the tricks and moves we teach our dogs actually benefit their health and mental well being.
In 2010 I Captained the first HTM and Freestyle Team to go to the World Championships in Denmark; whilst also competing with my little German Spitz, Bailey. The Team was very successful and we bought home Gold and Silver Medals.
I have taught and judged the sport both nationally and internationally and demonstrated and promoted the sport in boks and on television programmes such as The Apprentice; The Under Dog Show and Richard and Judy.
My most recent television appearance was on the British Animal Awards, hosted by Paul O'Grady, where I choreographed a team of 11 dogs whilst also working my own dog. To view our appearance please click above; I am working the white Collie during the Lady Gaga routine.
I have had the privilage of Judging the Crufts HTM, Freestyle, International and Young Kennel Club twice - in 2010 and 2015.
I am a Kennel Club Accredited Instructor in Heelwork to Music at Advanced Level - one of only three such Instructors in the whole of the United Kingdom. I have regularly taught this subject at the Kennel Clubs Try Out & Teach weekends as well as in countries such as Canada and Denmark and demonstrating at Crufts and Discover Dogs.
I take monthly classes for competitive handlers at Rake Village Hall, Liss, Hampshire and weekly classes for Haslemere & District Dog Training Club on Thursday evenings.
I am available to teach weekend and evening courses for those new to dog dancing or for those wanting to develop their dogs skills further. New to 2016 I am available for "Training the Trainer" seminars. Directed to the companion dog trainer who wants to add a bit of variation to their classes whilst also improving the health of their clients dogs both mentally and physically.
